This gave me chills while reading. As a lover of sci-fi (but terrible at the sciences), this was a very intriguing concept of self-reflection combined with beautiful imagination.
I envision my alternate self/selves as somewhat the opposite as well due (like you noted) . The grass always seems greener the other side and we will always wonder what things would and could have been like if alternative actions , decisions and events happened.
In reality, we only have so much time and energy available to do so much. This is why I love the arts (including writing) because it lets us immerse ourselves through imagination and endless possibilities that cannot be done in the physical world - at least not to my knowledge...unless all these sci-fi movies/shows have been secretly telling the truth the whole time! ;)...
